One might consider 2009 as the year of the 180 degree turn around in HR. We went from the hamster wheel of recruitment and retention in 2008; to layoffs and budget cuts across the board the following year. While the economic downturn proved to be challenging for business, we might discover that there were significant insights that we can take into the future as lessons learned. This session will examine various HR functions (i.e. Recruitment, Training, and Employee Relations, etc.) in an effort to consider what strategic changes were made to help sustain our businesses. We will discuss the insights that came about as a result of these changes and we will reflect on how HR professionals can continue to become more conscious of fresh ways to influence our companies for the better; regardless of business climate.
