This session will begin with the background of Human Resources from 1930 to the present and delve into the future of HR. Participants will learn that the first thing they must do to be a strategic HR leader is to embrace change, then to focus on service and knowing the customer, what he/she needs, if the HR Leader is doing it right, and the importance of learning all about ones customer and his/her business. Once one has done these things, one needs to strive for excellence, identify the areas of excellence and what is needed to develop and to ask for feedback. All of these things will help move one from transactional HR to transformational HR, which makes better strategic HR leaders. HR Leaders have to embrace things like technology, new recruiting & training methods, and learn to use outside expertise when necessary. Strategic HR leaders demonstrate leadership by offering suggestions and strategies, while balancing the need for feedback with the need to provide solutions. Strategic HR leaders are also the trusted advisors, being a solution provider & consultant, following through & following up, and being able to say “yes”. Finally, Strategic HR leaders explore best practices and know how to take advantage of best practices and how to build relationships to broaden individual perspective and how to agree in public and disagree in private when needed.
