The consequences for organizations that lag behind in addressing issues of diversity are high: missed opportunities, customer and client complaints, service delivery problems, etc. Having a diverse workforce and training everyone in an organization to appreciate and embrace diversity can help set a business apart from its competition. This session will illustrate how our perceptions of reality, and the statements or teachings by the media, friends, family, and even the education system can be limited in depth or simply wrong. It will encourage attendees to gain deeper insight into the way in which they see the world through their own social and cultural lenses. Through activities and discussion, attendees will understand the discomfort of being treated “differently”, how to break the cycle of stereotyping in the workplace and embrace differences.
